BIOS update for Sony Vaio Laptops models SZ6XX | 1.5M

By default, Sony has crippled the Vaio laptops by not enabling the supported Intel VT feature and not allowing it to be changed in the BIOS menu. This BIOS update enables the Intel VT feature.

The BIOS update is based on version R0122S5.

INSTALLATION

Just run the install.bat to simplify the command line entries (edit if you want to look at the commands to give yourself comfort that there isn"t anything nefarious). Just make sure to let the flash completely finish (it takes a few seconds to get going), and reboot your laptop when the cmd screen disappears.

You can run this update from XP, Vista, or Windows 7.

I have successfully installed the XP Mode Virtual PC for 7 with this updated BIOS.

WARNING

This is for the SZ6XX series only. The registers to enable VT on other Vaio models are not the same; so even though the BIOS version used might be the same for your model, this update will only work on the SZ6XX model. Also, updating BIOS is not for the faint of heart. In the worst case scenario (you brick your laptop), you will have to disassemble the laptop and remove the CMOS battery to reset to factory.

Having said that, this utility and upgrade is a one-click operation. Please ensure that ALL programs especially including anti-virus programs are not running, and that the laptop is plugged-in.
